This is one of my favorite spots, the access road to the Point on Emerald Isle.

I snapped this picture just up the street from the arrow on this Google map. We have had some windy weather recently, but we needed the rain that we got with it.

The Point is actually the spot where Bogue Inlet meets the ocean. There are always waves, but often the ocean is quieter once you get through the battle zone.

If you are looking for a last minute beach rental, you can always make a call to see if anything is available for short term. You can also check my Swansboro or Beaufort travel guides for recommendations on other places to stay and even places to eat if you make it here.

Speaking of food, in late April, I was wandering down the beach and stopped for dinner at the Crab Shack in Salter Path. I had a wonderful fried clam dinner. They actually use whole clams which is unusual for this area. The view from the restaurant is pretty hard to beat. You can also grab some fresh seafood next door at Willis Seafood Market.

It is not hard to feel like you are close to the ocean and sound when you are in Salter Path since the whole island is so narrow there.

This summer those whole fried clams have been a little hard to find even at the Crab Shack, but I have high hopes they show up again soon.

We have gotten by the fourth of July crowds. While there are still plenty of people at the beach, it is just pleasantly crowded. The one exception might be the restaurants in Salter Path and Emerald Isle. Here just after the middle of July they seem to be very busy in the evenings.

There are links to a number of restaurants in the side panel, but there are plenty more such as Yana's in Swansboro and on Route 58 just north of the bridge, The Fairway which is featured on the front page of my site currently. You can visit my Coastal Restaurants site to get a broad view of some of my favorite spots.

I also do a lot of wandering in the area so I will post articles about great area places that I enjoy like the Smokehouse in Holly Ridge on Route 17 not too far south of Jacksonville.
