The beach is ready for Memorial Day

Now the stars are aligning and the weather is approaching fantastic.

We have had a great few days down here on the coast.

Today, Monday, May 19, the wind died down.

It quieted enough to allow us to enjoy a trip in our skiff out Bogue Inlet. It was great to be on the water.

I posted a few slides of the trip. It wasn't one of those glassy smooth trips but it wasn't bad.

If I had been fortunate enough to have a fishing partner with me, I suspect that I would have tried for some flounder in the Inlet, but there is plenty of time left for that.

The ride up the Intracoastal is always a favorite of mine. The scenery cannot be beat.

Earlier we were stopped by the marine patrol, and they checked our safety gear.

It is reassuring to know that we passed with flying colors. You can never be too careful on the water.

It was also nice to find that all the buoys in the White Oak are in place. It makes for a lot nicer trip if the buoys are where they are supposed to be.

This evening we managed to take a walk on the beach over by the western regional access at Emerald Isle.

Of and on during the winter we have enjoyed watching the guys in wet suits surf.

Tonight we got treated to a show by a young lady with exceptional balance. She did a great job of sliding along the waves.

The water looked very inviting and of course I tried it.

My guess is that it is a little cooler than it was last week.

With warm days lined up before the weekend, I think we are okay.

A few warm nights are actually what we need, and we will be headed back in the right direction on water temperature.

I have decided that I am going to buy a nice water thermometer so I can post beach water temperatures.

We were on the beach by the Point at Emerald Isle last Thursday. It was so much fun that I did a post, Practicing my Chapel skills, about it and put up a nice set of slides.

Today we also saw a shrimp boat which is a good sign of tasty things being brought to shore.

We are also very close to having our new Carteret County site with events and business directoryup and running.

If you want your area event listed just send an email to the address at the bottom of the page.
